History of School

Scoil Chlochair Mhuire is a co-educational primary school.  An English lady Frances Margaret Taylor (Mother Magalene Taylor), founded an order of nuns called the Poor Servants of the Mother of God.  This order was invited to set up a primary school in the village of Carrigtwohill in 1881 by Fr. Seymour P.P.  The sisters taught in a school on a site near Barryscourt for a number of years.

In 1937 Scoil Chlochair Mhuire was founded.  The sisters taught in the school up to 2005 and now there is a total lay staff under the trusteeship of the SMG order.  On it’s 80th anniversary, in September 2017, Scoil Chlochair Mhuire became a co-educational school welcoming both boys and girls.
